Hyderabad: The unplanned growth spurt around the IT hub of the city during the last couple of years has left more than 3 lakh professionals residing around the hub gasping for basic services such as roads and drainage and facilities for garbage dumping.

Towns like APPA Junction, Gachibowli, Gandipet, Gopanpalli, Hitec City, Hydernagar, Hyderguda, Kondapur, Khajaguda, Kokapet, Kismatpur, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Miyapur, Nanakramguda, Narsingi and Tellapur have become the main residential centers around the IT area, are interspersed with the bad roads and overflowing drains.

The officials, meanwhile, say that these roads will have to wait for re-carpeted to the laying of water pipes and underground cables is completed and the monsoons are over.

Sriramnagar Raghavendra Colony in Manikonda and Society, Kondapur stand out as examples of unplanned growth with an electricity pylon high voltage in the middle of the main road. Moreover, in various parts of town Manikonda, trash dumped on street corners is a common site. Broken and completely eroded road sections can be seen in the DPS stretch toward ORR, and Raidurg, Manikonda and Durgam Cheruvu areas.

"This road has been bumpy for the past three years, and the amount of construction activity and heavy machinery, one side of the road is not usable. The authorities have not built the way so far despite the pre -sencia over 10,000 homes in the area, "said Prakash Rai, a resident of Madhavapuri Hills in Chandanagar.

"The main problems are drainage and roads could not be used during the rains," said Sandeep Kumar M., president (Telangana Association IT). "The main roads in and around the IT area belong to both GHMC and R & B (roads and buildings). These were recarpeted during the recent Week Metropolis. We are currently evaluating how many roads can be re-carpeted," said GHMC Zone west commissioner, PS Pradyumna.
