The department of posts (director of photography) is actively considering to apply for a banking license payment, according to the draft guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) last month. 

"We intend to enter the banking space," said Kalpana Tewari, Member (Planning and Technology) department. "We are waiting for the final guidelines to see how we fit into it and the benefits to the organization. Currently, they only have savings accounts and have no credit or line of credit, as it is beyond our mandate. We have to work in these areas. "

Last year, India Post requested a universal banking license, but was not granted one RBI. The telecom ministry had supported the ambition of India Post to become a full-fledged bank, but the Ministry of Finance was not interested, given the financial burden of the government. It is unclear if the thought has changed following the change of government at the Centre.
