One day after the Center issued an alert for swine flu, the city of Hyderabad registered two cases of swine flu on Sunday.
One of those affected is a pregnant 25-year-old woman, and another 17-month-old infant. Patients with swine flu have to join Gandhi hospital in the city, as it is the only public hospital that has an isolation room and other facilities for the treatment of the deadly disease.

The 17-month-old infant from Ramgopalpet in Secunderabad was diagnosed with swine flu during treatment in a private hospital. He was then shifted to Gandhi hospital. Pregnant woman named Shashikala, is a resident of Ecil crossroads and joined Gandhi hospital on December 24 with high fever. She tested positive two days later.

According to Dr. Narasimhulu, nodal officer in Gandhi hospital, ten cases have been recorded in the current year plus the two currently being treated in isolation of swine flu Ward in the hospital. Three patients died and seven of them were discharged after successful treatment, he said. According to Dr. Rafi, Resident Medial Officer Osmania General Hospital, the hospital does not have an isolation ward at present and all cases of swine flu will address the unique Gandhi Hospital.

Dr Narasimhulu warned people to be careful when they visited places like Tirupati mass congregations, Sabarimala and elsewhere. He warned people to observe cleanliness and ensure hygiene in their surroundings.

"As the first two weeks of January will be cold, people are advised to take precautions. Swine flu spreads easily HI NI in cold conditions," he said. According to the Chief Minister and Minister of State Health T Rajaiah, there are sufficient stocks of capsules and syrups to prevent and treat swine flu. Drugs have been supplied to all hospitals in the district headquarters as well. "We have a total of 13,200 capsules and syrups 210 to prevent and treat the flu," Rajaiah said recently.

He said the hospital staff Boxigrip Gandhi, would prophylactic to prevent the spread of infection. Authorities said people could go for testing if fever, cold and other bronchial problems persist swine flu.
