Hyderabad: The High Court of Hyderabad on Monday noted that the government has to give importance to the problems faced by farmers, food suppliers to society, rather than focusing on sports and entertainment.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a petition filed by Pakala Srihari Rao Medak district, trying to head the government of Telangana and the Centre for granting financial assistance from a minimum of `10 lakh to each of the members of the bereaved family of farmers who committed suicide.

The bench directed the Centre and the Telangana government to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks, explaining the steps being taken to address the problem of suicides by farmers.

When the attorney for the government, in response to questions, said they were being treated the problems of farmers, the judge said Sengupta, "It seems the government is focusing on one hand, by extending financial benefits to sports personalities and celebrities, as well as spending huge amounts of entertainment. the government has to be pragmatic to editors ".

The petitioner, Mr. Srihari Rao said that there was lack of coordination between the Centre and the state government in providing support to farmers through a liberal lending policy and an insurance policy effective crops.

He said that in the absence of a liberal lending policy, most farmers depended on private lenders. In case of loss of crops, they were unable to pay the lenders due to exorbitant interest rates and ended their lives.
