Hyderabad: Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) will fund energy projects in Telangana to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore, its chairman and CEO Rajeev Sharma said Tuesday Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

During a meeting with the prime minister, said REC funded projects Telangana Generation Corporation (GENCO), Transmission Corporation (TRANSCO) and distribution companies.

According to a statement from the office of the chief minister, REC also agreed to fund all GENCO energy projects.

President and CEO GENCO D. Prabhakar Rao was also present.

KCR, as the prime minister is popularly known, spoke about the power situation with both officials. He said the current spare production capacity of less than 5,000 MW should be increased through long term, short term and medium term strategies.

Prabhakar Rao told the prime minister that the state will get 2,800 MW of additional power at the end of next year from three sources. While 600 MW will be available from GENCO plant in Bhupalpally, 1,200 MW plant will come from Singareni in Jaipur in Adilabad district and the state will also have 1,000 MW from the central station.

The GENCO official in this state would overcome the deficiency and additional electricity generated in the future will make the state power surplus.
