Visakhapatnam: Faced with the Herculean task of clearing the "green waste" distributed in the city due to uprooting of more than one lakh trees during Cyclone Hudhud, the state government has finally decided to clear the mess by calling tenders. 

Estimates of civilian authorities, there would be no more than one lakh tonnes of green waste, including wood and other debris. The government is setting the upset price per ton to be auctioned. 

At this time, the branches and trunks are cut at certain points in eight areas under GVMC limits. The green debris is now kept at about 66 points. As the court in Kapuluppada 100 acres where the GVMC had been dumping trash and debris from the year 1996 is almost full, it has become difficult for the civic body to clear fresh green debris. On average, daily 800 metric tons of garbage is being dumped in Kapuluppada. 

"We're estimating at least 10,000 to 20,000 tons of debris in each area of GVMC. The auction will be held on October 27th is the responsibility of the winning bid to pick and clean debris Noember 12 at their own expenses "GVMC chief Engineer B. Jayarami Reddy said. 

The state government has also relaxed rules for forest rights exempting transit permit for debris auctioned required otherwise from the transportation department. 

"It's the best way to clean the debris. Otherwise, it will not be easy for the civic body to its infrastructure and labor limited task," said another official GVMC.
