Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Head of Portfolio Management Health T. Rajaiah on Tuesday appealed to people to come forward wholeheartedly to donate eyes after death and help eradicate blindness in the society. 

In connection with the celebrations of National Eye Donation Fortnight held from 25 August to 8 September every year, the Deputy Prime Minister, signed the relevant documents at his residence in Banjara who donate their eyes after death. The program was organized by the Saroji Devi Eye Hospital this morning. 

Speaking on the occasion, Rajaiah revealed that about 1.2 million people suffering from corneal blindness in the country. Affirming that if one is well needed lakh eyeballs each year, only 40,000 eyeballs were being acquired, the Deputy Prime Minister appealed to people, regardless of gender, religion, region and caste, to come forward with eye donation after death. He noted that people who donate their eyes would have the rare opportunity to see the world through their own eyes after his death. 

Program director Hyderabad District Blindness Eradication Institute Dr. Ravinder Goud, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital superintendent Dr K NARSA Reddy and others participated in the program.
